Room Hire/Concert bookings
The letting of our building is administered by Open Door, our Community enrichment project.
Bookings: The rooms are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the daytime and at other times by arrangement. They are principally for charities, educational purposes, non-profit organisations and the arts.
Bookings are handled by the reception team who may be contacted on 01270 879114 or by using the Contact Form.
If you leave a message on the answer machine, it will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
Costs: Open Door offers our facilities at cost price – that is, to cover cleaning, administration, heating, lighting and water, and wear and tear. There are no charges for use by charities or for charitable fund-raising. For other use, we can't afford for the West Room and McDonald Room to be used for less than £7 per hour. We therefore ask for £7 per hour as a minimum donation. For the main church building, we need a minimum of £10 per hour during the summer (May - September inclusive) and £25 per hour for the rest of the year.
The main body of the church is a wide, fluid space. The acoustics are excellent and there is a good sound reinforcement system. The building comfortably holds 350-400 seated. It is excellent for concerts, exhibitions, fund-raising events, lectures and meetings that require group work as well as plenary sessions. Access is by either the north side, from the rear car park, or from the south, on the main road. There is disabled and other parking at the front, and parking at the back, with access off The Avenue. There is room for some 24 cars parked easily and more if no one's in a hurry to get away.
The West Room comfortably accommodates 10-15 people with flexible seating. It connects visibly with the main body of the church through a glass wall, but can be to some extent aurally isolated. The room is equipped with a computer socket, its own sound system and a digital audio-visual system using a smartboard.
The MDonald Room can acommodate over 20 people It has its own sink and tea-making facilities. Access from outside is from the rear car park (reached from The Avenue). The lavatories are accessible from a door connecting the room with the main body of the church.
While looking forward to welcoming you to our venue, we would like to point out that as a church and a listed building, St Mary's offers the advantages of beautiful surroundings and excellent acoustics. Equally, it has the constraints of limited lavatory facilities and on-site parking. Out of respect for our neighbours, will visitors please avoid parking in The Avenue whenever possible and instead use the ample free parking behind the Civic Centre.
